Disability, Academic & Workplace Accommodation Letters

At times, clients may request written documentation to support accommodations in academic, workplace, or housing settings related to mental health. These letters are considered clinical assessments, not administrative services.

At Oregon Healing Collective, accommodation letters are not automatically provided and are not guaranteed. The decision to write a letter is made solely at the discretion of the treating therapist, based on clinical judgment, therapeutic history, and ethical standards of practice.

When Letters May Be Appropriate

A letter may be considered when:

  • You are a current client actively engaged in therapy

  • A mental health condition has been clinically assessed

  • The requested accommodation is directly related to documented clinical needs

  • There is sufficient therapeutic history to ethically support the request

Requests may be declined if clinical criteria are not met or if the requested accommodation falls outside the therapist’s scope of practice.

Examples of Accommodation Requests

Letters may support requests such as:

  • Flexible scheduling or modified workload

  • Academic deadline extensions or reduced course load

  • Environmental adjustments

  • Temporary workplace modifications

  • Leave recommendations when clinically indicated

The content and scope of any letter will be determined by clinical appropriateness and professional standards.

Important Considerations

  • Letters reflect clinical opinion and do not guarantee approval by employers, schools, housing providers, or other third parties.

  • Therapists do not complete Social Security Disability determinations, legal disability evaluations, or fitness-for-duty assessments unless separately contracted.

  • An additional session may be required to assess and clarify accommodation needs prior to writing a letter.

Fees & Timeline

  • $50 per letter

  • Please allow up to 2 weeks for completion

  • $25 rush fee for expedited requests (when feasible)

Rush requests cannot always be accommodated and are subject to therapist availability.
